לִישׁוּעָתְךָ קִוִּינוּ כָּל הַיּוֹם, To Your salvation we have hoped [gathered together into a line] all day, is something we say in our Amidah prayer daily and it the prayer for Mashiach.

The word קִוִּינוּ, kivinu, commonly translated as hope is derived from the words of yikavu gathering together and a kav,  line, or a cord. (Based on Rashi and Ibn Ezra, Beraishis, 1:9)

I think it is important to work on understanding this process of קִוִּינוּ even more so we can properly understand what it is we are saying and its connection to davening for the final redemption.

The Ibn Ezra says that until the land dried , the רָקִיעַ, the firmament did not come into being. The dry land beneath the waters were not revealed, they were hidden until there was a gathering of the waters of the seas containing different tasting fish, יִקָּווּ הַמַּיִם.  This firmament not coming into being, or needing some things to happen for Mashiach to be revealed seem much like the process of redemption.

In the story of creation, the yabasha, the dry land is a reality that was already created, except the water was spread over the surface of all the earth, not yet revealed until: יִקָּווּ הַמַּיִם מִתַּחַת הַשָּׁמַיִם אֶל־מָקוֹם אֶחָד וְתֵרָאֶה הַיַּבָּשָׁה וַיְהִי־כֵן,  all the waters beneath the skies, were gathered together to one place, to become מִקְוֵה הַמַּיִם,  one large body of water. וְתֵרָאֶה הַיַּבָּשָׁה, doing so allowed  the dry land to be seen and the firmament to be completed.

Rather than Hashem creating the Shamayim and Aretz with the clear lines, boundaries  as one step, there were different steps to the creative process until it was completed. There were different stages until the final objectives were fulfilled.  (1)  There had to be a gathering of the waters to form a Mikveh; one large body of water.  (2)  The waters were from different seas containing different tasting fish. (3) The waters had to be gathered to a Makom Echad; One place amongst other things.

Doing this created clear lines aka as Kav,  to establish dry land that can be seen, waters, and the firmament (Rakia); that was called Shamayim was now completed.

There seems to be a process of creation of making things into an order, just as we do in a siddur, when we make seder, order.

Hashem teaches us that He directed the waters to gather together into “One Place”. Once that happened it was no longer a hodgepodge of water and earth and now the earth can be seen.  Now the earth was in a form that could be ready to have growth.

Hashem’s Unity, His Light is the process of redemption.  The final redemption will include the revelation of His Unity.  It seems similar to the process described by the second day of creation when the word יִקָּווּ הַמַּיִם and מִקְוֵה הַמַּיִם is introduced and defined as a gathering together.  In other words, the redemption was already created but hard to see when it is mixed up with all the dirt so to speak.

I think we can use this idea as a description of davening  when we say לִישׁוּעָתְךָ קִוִּינוּ כָּל הַיּוֹם.  Davening is a process of making order, and allows us to tap into infinite realities, change realities , change nature when we daven to Hashem, and allows us to now see the Yabasha, the dry land, so to speak.    We can daven for a world redeemed  and see it as real so it is ready to emerge,  when we have made the clear line to  Makom Echad, One Source of all.

Have we done a process of organizing all to a Makom Echad, directed and connected to Hashem?  Have we used the world to daven to Hashem by making a world of chaos into a world of order and good so it is ready for a world of Mashiach?   Have we gathered together to daven in this way,  to live with Tikvah (same root word of Kivinu)?

The more we can gather, unify, and make things in order internally, we can then see the dry land.  We can then have a proper garden to grow our trees, and an environment for the sprouts of Mashiach to be activated;  Hashem’s Unity revealed.
